I've been quite busy lately playing with cake! Doesn't that sound fun? Well, to me, it is. I scour the internet, books and magazines looking for ideas. Then I do the same to find recipes. I make and manipulate and play with them. And the result? Well you tell me. This is my cherry blossom cake. The branches are made from "chocolate pastic" or modeling chocolate. It is really just semi-sweet chocolate and corn syrup. The syrup keeps the melted chocolate pliable and doesn't allow it to harden back to a solid state. The pink top, flowers and bow are made from fondant and gumpaste. It was my first time attempting a bow and I think it turned out pretty good. I learned make more loops....just in case.
The chocolate was delicious and pretty easy to use, but sticky. Next time I would like to make a three tier cake with the trunk and branches snaking up the side with tons of flowers. I'll keep ya posted on that one. And these are the hamburger cakes I made this week. The top, "burger" and bottom are all cake and buttercream. The "fixin's" are fondant. And the "fries" are toasted pound cake. It was a lot of fun. I wasn't too happy with the size of the bottom bun on the larger cake, and would cut it smaller next time. And I would like to add more details to the "fixing's" such as seeds on the tomatoes and to make the pickles look like pickles! Here is the smaller burger. I like its dimensions better than the bigger one. And the little boy that it went to said it looked like a "crabby patty". Since he really likes Spongebob that is a great compliment for me. See how much fun I have? I'm working on some new things. New changes to my recipes and new ideas for healthier eating. I know it's odd to be announcing that on this kind of post. But.....well, just stay tuned to see what's coming up.
Amazing.
